The Zanesville Memorial Concert Band enriches Muskingum County and the Southeastern Ohio region through free summer concerts that celebrate the enduring tradition of concert band music. We provide meaningful performance opportunities for talented local musicians, collaborate with area high school programs to inspire young artists, and cultivate a lifelong appreciation for music across our community. Through these efforts, we strive to make quality live music accessible to all.
About Us
The Zanesville Memorial Concert Band has provided free summer concerts to the Muskingum County community since 1923, continuing a rich band tradition in Zanesville that dates to the mid-19th century. Originally founded through the support of local music advocates Eaton S. Drone and John Hoge, the Memorial Band has performed for generations in parks, public spaces, and community celebrations throughout the region. Since the mid-1980s, the band has made its home at Zane’s Landing Park.
Today, the Memorial Band is comprised of musicians from throughout Southeastern Ohio representing all walks of life and a wide range of musical experiences—from high school students to musicians in their 80s, from dedicated amateurs to seasoned professionals. This unique blend of backgrounds and generations is central to the band’s identity and reflects the enduring community tradition of concert band music.
Through free summer performances, educational collaborations, and a commitment to accessible live music, the Zanesville Memorial Concert Band continues its mission of enriching the community through the shared experience of music. The band celebrated its centennial season in 2023 with the premiere of Eternal Flame by Brian Balmages, commissioned in honor of the occasion.
